Senior Exhibition

For my senior exhibition project, I wanted to focus on the misrepresentation in printed media. I created a series of ten magazine covers that showcase models that are not typically on the front cover. The lack of diversity is something I have noticed as a result of my interests in pop culture and through research. I took inspiration from a few different magazines that were prominent in my teen years. I created the title “ Issues” as a play on words to call out misrepresentation and world problems. Social justice is a very important topic to me, and I wanted to reflect that in my final exhibition project.

My goal as an artist is to create art that makes the viewer realize their place in the world and how we all affect each other. This can be negative effects like climate change, or positive effects by seeing something beautiful, like nature. I aim to include myself in my work whether that be through aesthetics or personal interests, while also leaving room for personal interpretation for the viewer. I implemented what I learned from my two years in my undergraduate art program. This includes principles and elements of design, like asymmetrical balance, and graphic design.
